This new episode marks two very important occasions.
First of all, as you all know, The Zack and Curly Show IS sponsored by Dr Pepper (the amazing soft drink). This fact was not made clear in the last, ahem, ‘episode’. Consider this episode my apology to my sponsors.
Secondly, and more importantly, this episode marks me publicly coming out as a trans woman. For years I have identified as a woman instead of the male body I inhabit, and finally I’m not afraid to acknowledge that. You might have wondered why I have odd mood swings in the podcast and behave erratically and these can be attributed to my confusion over my gender.
I don’t officially ‘come out’ as such in the podcast, but with the magic of recording technology I was able to digitally alter my voice to sound like the person I am inside. Really I believe that it shouldn’t be necessary to ‘come out’ and people should just accept me for who I am. I am still going by the name Zack as it could be short for many different girl names (Zackeisha, Zackere, Zacariah… I haven’t decided yet!)
When Nick arrived at the recording studio, he was weirded out by me wearing a dress and burst out laughing. As anyone who has listened to episode 4 knows, he is homophobic and we can now safely add transphobic to the list… I was already angry at him over the episode 9 debacle so I lashed out and attacked him. Even though I threatened him with more violence to not draw attention to my appearance he carried on making snide remarks throughout the episode which I’ve left in unedited to further shame him. Not cool man, not cool.
Some of you may be confused by the ending of the show, but it’s a vital piece of social commentary that there’s for a reason. Click here to read more about it (SPOILERS ALERT).
